2027: Atiku camp accuses Kwankwaso of working for Tinubu Politics

2027: Atiku camp accuses Kwankwaso of working for Tinubu

The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADC-PCC) has alleged that the Vice Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, is working to advance the interest of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Kola Ologbondiyan, Director of Media and Publicity, ADC-PCC in a statement slammed Kwankwaso, over his call on former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar presidential candidate of the ADC to step down for Peter Obi, describing the statement as reckless. Ologbondiyan said he was reacting to Kwankwaso’s interview on Channels Television and accused the former Kano State governor of focusing on opposition leaders rather than confronting the President Tinubu’s administration that “Nigerians are desperate to vote out.” Ologbondiyan declared that Atiku would win Kano State (Kwankwaso’s home state) in the presidential election with or without Kwankwaso’s support, stressing that the “hardship, hunger, poverty and insecurity confronting Nigerians would ultimately determine their choices at the polls.” He noted that Kwankwaso’s position was particularly curious given his own political alignment with Peter Obi and the NDC, arguing that, as a member of the opposition seeking to unseat the incumbent government, his priority should be building a stronger opposition rather than attempting to undermine another opposition leader. “Rather than campaigning against President Tinubu, whose administration Nigerians are eagerly working to vote out, Kwankwaso is fixated on Atiku Abubakar, the ADC candidate, whom millions of Nigerians believe can restore economic stability and make life affordable again.” “Having reportedly described the office of the Vice President as a ‘spare tyre’, he appears more concerned about positioning himself for the 2031 presidential election rather than addressing the urgent challenges confronting Nigerians today,” Ologbondiyan said. The ADC-PCC spokesman argued that Kwankwaso’s conduct raised questions about his actual political preferences for 2027, suggesting that his actions appeared more beneficial to the ruling APC than supporting any of the opposition candidates. Ologbondiyan, however, maintained that history did not support the assumption that Kwankwaso’s political influence was indispensable to any presidential candidate seeking victory in Kano. Citing the 2003 and 2007 presidential elections, Ologbondiyan recalled that former President Muhammadu Buhari secured victories in Kano despite not enjoying Kwankwaso’s support, arguing that Atiku could equally win the state in 2027. “What Kwankwaso is doing amounts to advancing President Tinubu’s interests. It is a familiar APC strategy to use willing collaborators within the opposition to create confusion, sow division and weaken the collective efforts to bring about political change. “Nigerians are wiser than that and will not allow themselves to be distracted by political manoeuvres designed to rescue an unpopular administration,” he said. Ologbondiyan further accused Kwankwaso of having a history of political manoeuvring that, in his view, placed personal ambition above the collective interests of opposition parties. He alleged that Kwankwaso’s latest intervention was less about strengthening Peter Obi’s presidential prospects than positioning himself for future political negotiations ahead of 2031.#nigerianpolitics

Aviation unions commend Achimugu for boosting NCAA’s image

By Faheem Lawal Following his recent string of awards, Aviation workers’ unions have commended the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Mr. Michael Achimugu, describing him as a worthy ambassador of Nigeria whose work continues to project the country’s aviation industry positively at home and internationally. The commendation was made by the Deputy General Secretary of the Air Transport Senior Staff Services Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), Comrade Olayinka Abioye, during a congress of aviation unions held at the NCAA Regional Office in Lagos this week.   Abioye congratulated Achimugu on his recent awards, applauding his contributions to the image of the Authority and the innovations championed by his directorate in advancing engagement with airlines, passengers and other stakeholders in the aviation industry. The commendation comes amid a series of recognitions received by Achimugu in 2026 for his contributions to aviation communication, consumer protection, passenger rights advocacy and professional practice. On October 5, 2026, Achimugu received the Protocol Man of the Year Award from the Centre for Protocol Profession Development (CPDD) and the Council of Protocol Professionals (CIPP). The award was presented on the sidelines of the 13th International Protocol Officers Conference, Workshop and Awards (IPOC 2026), held in Lagos. Earlier, on June 29, 2026, he received the 2026/2027 African Brands Personality Award, presented by the African Brands team led by Mr. Godwin Enesi Chatta at the NCAA headquarters in Abuja. The recognition acknowledged his contributions to consumer protection and passenger rights advocacy in the Nigerian aviation sector. At the 15th Nigeria Aviation (NIGAV) Awards held in Lagos on April 17, 2026, Achimugu also received the Aviation Agency Director Award in recognition of his role in strengthening consumer protection and stakeholder engagement. The awards highlight the growing importance of effective public communication, professional conduct and sustained engagement with stakeholders in advancing the interests of the aviation industry and the travelling public. As Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Achimugu plays a key role in communicating the NCAA’s regulatory activities, promoting awareness of passenger rights, addressing consumer concerns and facilitating engagement between the Authority, airlines, the media and the general public. Members of the unions said his directorate also serves as an important channel through which passengers receive information about their rights and responsibilities, including matters relating to flight delays, cancellations, baggage issues and ticket refunds. 2027: Tinubu demands credible polls, assures opposition of security agencies’ neutrality Politics

2027: Tinubu demands credible polls, assures opposition of security agencies’ neutrality

Orders immediate rescue of abductees, wipe out terrorists’ camps nationwide _________________________________________________________________________ From Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja President Bola Tinubu has directed security agencies to ensure free, fair and credible elections in 2027, with Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd), assuring opposition political parties that security personnel will remain neutral and will not intimidate any candidate.   Musa disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents on Thursday after a meeting of the National Security Council presided over by Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. He said the President had made it clear that the security agencies must guarantee a safe environment for Nigerians to exercise their democratic rights, irrespective of their political affiliations. “You can see all heads of security agencies are here. We had an intensive discussion, and Mr President made it very clear he wants a free, fair and credible election. “We must do everything possible to ensure that the country is safe and secure for the citizens to go out and vote,” he said. The defence minister specifically assured opposition parties that the security agencies would not take sides in the elections, urging political actors to have confidence in their professionalism. “For all other political parties, they should understand that the security forces are going to be neutral. We are going to ensure that we give everybody the opportunity to go and serve, so they have nothing to worry about, nothing to be afraid of, and nobody is going to intimidate them for whatever reasons,” Musa said. He stressed that security personnel were committed to discharging their duties professionally and providing equal protection for all political parties and candidates. The assurance comes as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue, with the role of security agencies in protecting voters, candidates and electoral materials expected to be crucial to the conduct of the polls. Beyond election security, Musa said Tinubu had directed the security agencies to intensify operations against terrorists and bandits, with specific instructions to rescue all abducted Nigerians and dismantle criminal camps across the country. “The directive from the President is: all of us must go all out to fish out and rescue all those that have been abducted, kidnapped, wherever they are. “There shouldn’t be any camp of any terrorist or bandits anywhere in Nigeria,” he said. On efforts to strengthen the country’s security architecture, the minister disclosed that the administration had increased recruitment, training and equipment procurement for the Armed Forces. He also revealed that Tinubu would soon commission newly acquired aircraft and helicopters, numbering nearly 10, to boost the operational capacity of the military. According to Musa, the acquisitions demonstrate the administration’s commitment to addressing insecurity despite the country’s economic challenges. He further cited recent salary increases for members of the Armed Forces and measures to address the welfare of security personnel and pensioners as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen the security sector. The minister called on Nigerians to support security agencies by providing credible information about suspicious activities and reporting misconduct by personnel. “Security is everybody’s responsibility. It’s not only for members of security forces. Everyone has a role to play,” he said, assuring that appropriate action would be taken against security personnel found engaging in wrongdoing. Musa reaffirmed the commitment of the security agencies to working together to protect Nigerians, tackle insecurity and maintain peace and stability across the country.   Tags: #2027 elections #abductees rescue #Christopher Musa #security agencies neutrality #Tinubu credible polls

Cristiano Ronaldo 1,000th Goal Targeted for Kuwait Sports

Cristiano Ronaldo 1,000th Goal Targeted for Kuwait

Wayne Rooney has attacked Cristiano Ronaldo for his decision to leave the Portugal national team camp, saying his path was “wrong” and the forward had “poisoned” his coach, teammates and the Portuguese Football Federation. The former Manchester United striker gave his opinions after Ronaldo reportedly had a row with Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus during the international break last week. The dispute was over form, with Ronaldo said to be leaving the national team camp because he was not in the starting XI. Later, Ronaldo posted a tweet on social media and apologised to his teammates, but accused Jesus of failing to keep his word. The Portuguese skipper also said that he was referring to football legends Pele and Diego Maradona when he was defending himself in the game. Rooney wondered why Ronaldo did not respond at the right time or in the right way on The United Stand. He noted that the event had fallen on the eve of Lionel Messi’s retirement from Argentina’s national team, adding that it was not easy to have Ronaldo’s public comment. Rooney said a player should not “dictate” what a manager must say in public and that it could have a negative impact on the relationship within Portugal. He also shared the view of a former teammate and manager as to the situation.   Sir Alex Ferguson’s criticism is all the more impressive given the fact that Rooney and Ronaldo were at Manchester United together for five seasons (2004-09). They won three Premier League titles and UEFA Champions League during that time. Rooney’s comments come at a significant time as Ronaldo faces another challenging period in his international career, given their joint history.

Lamine Yamal Inspires Barcelona’s Stunning Comeback Win Sports

Lamine Yamal Inspires Barcelona’s Stunning Comeback Win

Lamine Yamal inspires Barcelona to a commanding 4-1 victory over Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, producing a decisive second-half performance that helped the Spanish side recover from an early setback and secure their second consecutive win. Barcelona failed to find a tempo in the first few minutes, but Galatasaray were able to score in the 27th minute. It was a counter and a back-and-forth game which found its conclusion in a shot by Aleksei Batrakov which deflected off Joao Cancelo and into the net to give the hosts the lead. The visitors got their revenge after half-time with Cancelo’s pass from Dani Olmo finding his target. The game was levelled by the equaliser and Barcelona got the impetus they wanted going into the half-time break. Lamine Yamal was then the star of the attacking resurgence at Barcelona. The teenager headed home a perfect cross for Fermin in the 50th minute – the turnaround finished and the visitors moved ahead.   It was another brilliant moment from Yamal after just three minutes when he drilled a pass under Eren Elmali and found Anthony Gordon to keep Barcelona in possession. His creative touch was further highlighted in the 65th minute when another pass found Karim Adeyemi in front to find the fourth opportunity. Yamal didn’t score the goal but his play was crucial in breaking Galatasaray’s defence.   Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick described the teenager as a “player who has a very strong effect on the team” after the game, noting his “goal conversion” skills. “Josie, it’s amazing to have players like that. “He has turned the game around to us.” The German coach also said that the creativity of Yamal during training sessions often takes the form of competition. The young captain was then handed the armband by his teammates when Pedri was substituted, making him even more prominent in the team.

After 27 titles in 23 years at Real Madrid, Carvajal joins Getafe Sports

After 27 titles in 23 years at Real Madrid, Carvajal joins Getafe

Former Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal has joined Getafe on a free transfer. The Madrid-born right-back has been without a club since his contract at the Bernabeu expired in June. The 34-year-old spent 23 years with Real Madrid and is one of the most decorated players in the game's history, with 27 titles to his name - including six Champions League wins. He has signed a deal until June next year with Getafe, who sit 11th in La Liga and are based in the south of Spain's capital city. Carvajal made 51 appearances for Spain including the Nations League win in 2023 and the European Championships triumph in 2024. But he has struggled with injuries in recent seasons, suffering a cruciate ligament tear in October 2024 then another serious knee injury a year later. Injuries and the arrival of Trent Alexander-Arnold last summer limited his appearances in his last season at Real Madrid but Getafe said they welcomed his "experience and leadership". 'An intriguing twist' By Elizabeth Conway Spanish football reporter Dani Carvajal's decision to remain in the Spanish capital and join Getafe across the city adds an intriguing twist to the season. It is a significant change of scenery for a player who became one of the most decorated defenders in Real Madrid history as he made 451 appearances for the club. But rather than heading abroad or stepping away from the top level, Carvajal has chosen a fresh challenge little more than 10 miles south of the Bernabeu. The move makes sense from a personal and sporting perspective. Carvajal has faced injury setbacks in recent seasons and needs regular football to prove he can still perform at the highest level. Staying in Madrid also allows the defender to remain close to home. For a player so closely associated with Real Madrid, it will be unusual to see him on the opposite side of the city's second derby, but it gives Carvajal the chance to keep playing football, take on a new challenge and show that his career at the top level is not over just yet.

Real Madrid's rival: Carvajal settles his move to a new club Sports

Real Madrid's rival: Carvajal settles his move to a new club

A different challenge in La Liga Getafe are busy rebuilding in October, raiding the free agent market to hand Jose Bordalas more options after a shaky start to the season. According to Spanish newspaper "Marca", Dani Carvajal has already struck an agreement with Getafe. The official announcement now hinges on both parties putting pen to paper on documents that have already been delivered. The right-back had agreed all the details with the club several days ago, passed his medical and was due to sign a contract until the end of the season. Then came the snag. Getafe tried to register him with the Spanish league and found no space under the salary cap, blocking the move. Angel Torres solved it by handing the Spanish league a financial guarantee, creating the margin the club needed to get deals over the line this window. Carvajal will be unveiled after the trip to Universitatea Craiova next Thursday in the UEFA Conference League. Parejo enters the picture With Carvajal all but done, Getafe have turned to Dani Parejo. The 37-year-old midfielder from Coslada is without a club after finishing last season at Villarreal, and contacts between the two sides have already begun. Parejo is one of the grand old names of Spanish football, a veteran of hundreds of top-flight outings with Real Madrid, Valencia and Villarreal. He also wore the Getafe shirt between 2009 and 2011. That was 15 years ago. Beyond Carvajal and Parejo, the club's recruitment staff are still combing the free agent market for one more arrival. Bordalas wants more firepower up front for a season in which Getafe are juggling three demanding competitions.
